Summit 21 was Epic and I was Epic with it!
Sometimes I really surprise myself with how good I am with networking at some of these events I go to. This year I went to Summit 21 in Atlanta, GA by myself. This was my first time at the conference and I must say, I was amazed. Every once in a while I find myself in a room full of people who look like me and think like me and every time I am flabbergasted by the beauty of it all. And yes, I’ve been looking for a reason to say “flabbergasted” for a while and that was it (LOL). I love how open to conversation and meeting new people everyone was at this event. It was a sea of like-minded entrepreneurial young women. Some of the topics discussed were politics, social media, business hacks, finance and so much more.
One of the key moments for me was when I was one of very few to ask Representative Maxine Waters a question about how to get business investors and Venture capitalists to believe in your brand and she said she’d personally show me the way. Can you say EPIC mine and many others jaws were dropped by the statement and the opportunity she gave me. Her response was a lot and I was mostly in shock but she invited me to come to the Congressional Black Caucus with her this year. And while I have not heard back from her people ( Yes, I’ve reached out) I am still honored to have received the advice from her that I did and to have made connections at the event as a result from her recognizes me and shouting out my custom Monica Monique dress.
In my previous blog I wrote about what to wear as a social introvert which pointed out wearing an outfit that will make people want to talk to you or come up to you. Using your look as a conversation starter instead of having to come up with some. I definitely took my own advice at this event too and it worked! Check out my looks and inspirations below and of course they are Monica Monique!
